Introduction The “Natural resources, conflict and Peace” conference will be held between 25th and 28th July, 2012 and it is aimed at drawing together all stakeholders working with Natural resources and are involved in research or management of conflict and peace in relation to natural resources. It will provide a good opportunity to all stakeholders to meet and discuss pertinent issues related to conflict, conflict resolution and peace initiatives. Karatina University College, a constituent college of Moi University partnering with Indiana and Purdue Universities and others will host this conference. The conference will be the first of its kind and unique in sharing information on natural resources, conflicts and peace while identifying the challenges and as well as opportunities in resolving conflicts and fostering peace in use of natural resources
Themes of the conference: Three themes have been proposed as follows • Natural resources • Conflicts • Peace
Conference sub-themes a). Land (including pasture and agriculture)
b) Water (Including fisheries)
c). Biotic (Wildlife, forests, fish, etc)
d). Biotic (Energy, Minerals, air etc)
Objectives of the Conference The following are the objectives of the conference: • Provide a platform for invited speakers to make oral and poster presentations and to provoke discussions on issues related to the theme • Put in place the framework for establishing an international forum and network of researchers and practitioners on the theme of “Natural Resources, Conflicts and Peace” • Facilitate the founding of a journal on “Natural Resources, Conflicts and Peace” that will publish the annual proceedings and other quarterly publications on behalf of the forum and stakeholders • Create awareness, improve the knowledge and understanding to all participants and the general public on matters of Natural Resources, Conflicts and Peace”
